# User tags (/docs/analyze/people/user-tags)

User tags describe the people in your community. A user tag is a label on a person, for example _Customer_, _Partner_, or _Impersonator_. Use user tags to find, filter, and report on groups of people.

## What you're looking at [#what-youre-looking-at]

Each user tag belongs to a **tag group**. A tag group keeps related tags together, for example a _Role_ group that contains _Customer_, _Prospect_, and _Partner_. A person can have many user tags.

## Manage user tags [#manage-user-tags]

Go to **Settings → Tag Groups**. On this page you can:

- Create a tag group.
- Add, rename, or remove tags in a group.
- Add a description to a tag.

For the full editor, see [Content Management](/docs/configure/content-management).

## AI tags and manual tags [#ai-tags-and-manual-tags]

Sift applies user tags in two ways:

- **AI-applied tags:** Sift's AI applies these tags when it analyzes your users. User rules in **AI Studio** also tag people when a rule matches.
- **Manually added tags:** Your team adds these tags to a person. Open a user profile and use the **User tags** section to add or remove a tag.

## See and filter user tags [#see-and-filter-user-tags]

- On the **People** page, the **User tags** column shows the tags on each person.
- Use the user tag filter on the **People** page to show only the people with a given tag.
- Open a user profile to see all of the person's user tags.

## Tips [#tips]

- Keep each tag group about one subject, for example role, risk, or value tier.
- Use a filter on a user tag to build a list of people for follow-up.
